I started working with acting out and chemically dependent adolescents and their families, and dually diagnosed adults in 1985. Over the years I pursued specialized training in addictions and dual disorders, family systems therapy, trauma resolution, mood and behavioral disorders, and attachment challenges for individuals across the life span. Although I continue to work with children, adolescents, and adult clients within the modalities of individual, family, and group therapy, my focus of study and clinical development over the last ten years has been the traumatized child placed in foster care and eventually permanently adopted. In addition, although I have worked with traumatized individuals for over two decades, more recently I have trained and become certified in the use of Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) which has shown some empirical base and shows promise for effective treatment for trauma resolution. My research has led me to the goal of obtaining additional training in strategies that show promise in healing children, adolescents, and adults impacted by trauma resulting in traumatic stress and other psychiatric symptoms. These strategies include neurofeedback, cranio-sacral and other body therapies, and use of the Internal Family System Model (IFS) developed by Richard Schwartz. Training in the integration of traditional talk therapy and craniosacral and other body therapies began in September of 2007 and continued at St. Joseph Institute in central Pennsylvania through March of 2008. Neurofeedback training through EEG Spectrum Inc occured in January 2008 and ongoing clinical consultation occurs. The study of IFS principles and the integration of strategies spawned out of that and other ego-state models continues to be utilized as part of a comprehensive holistic approach to the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of my clients and their families.
