A small pilot study involving two sites is being planned for the Spring of 2008 as a preliminary exploration of treatment outcomes of a number of therapeutic strategies with traumatized adopted children and thier parents. More information on this will come as the study takes on more shape and is conducted. Outcomes of this pilot study will hopefully give some direction to the investigators on the future goal of conducting a multi-site national study on treatment outcomes in this population.
The first internal agency field test of a group therapy program for parents of special needs birth and adopted children at Counseling Alternatives Group occured in the Spring 2008. Parents' feedback on the group process as well as specific therapeutic techniques narrative and trauma resolution related were solicited and were extremely positive. Specific outcome measures on parental mental health, parent-child interaction, and trauma resolution were administered and collected at pre, mid and post treatment times. Although this was the first group of clients to participate in the group the outcome measures were quite robust. Click on the link below to get an informal report on the trends that were observed. More parent therapy groups are planned for Fall 2008, Winter 2008-2009 and Spring 2009. Data will also be collected within these groups so that we can fine tune the process of the group program.
