While the techniques and ideas may be of help none of them are ever guaranteed to work with every single child being parented by every single parent. Parents should realize that they should consult with their children's professional helper and team before deciding to implement any behavioral or emotional strategies with their children. That having been said please enjoy and review the information presented below.

About once every three to four months I present information to groups of adults that are training to be foster/adoptive parents at the local Children and Youth Services organization. I tell these people that they are truly my heroes because it in often in their homes that traumatized children receive their first experiences of safety and healing. I teach them how to discipline their children in ways that will not exacerbate the trauma of the children and I call these techniques positive discipline. The Self-Led Parent Therapy Group (SLP Group) is a new offering at Counseling Alternatives by myself and a number of my colleagues who work with children, adults and family systems. This group is based on the concepts of Internal Family Systems originally developed by Richard Schwartz PhD.
