About once every three to four months I present information to groups of adults that are training to be foster/adoptive parents at the local Children and Youth Services organization. I tell these people that they are truly my heroes because it in often in their homes that traumatized children receive their first experiences of safety and healing. I teach them how to discipline their children in ways that will not exacerbate the trauma of the children and I call these techniques positive discipline. The Self-Led Parent Therapy Group (SLP Group) is a new offering at Counseling Alternatives by myself and a number of my colleagues who work with children, adults and family systems. This group is based on the concepts of Internal Family Systems originally developed by Richard Schwartz PhD.
